THE MAYOR OF CHRISTCHURCH ASKED TO RESIGN.

Chbistcdrhch, this day. Nine members of the Christchurch City Council last nicrhfc signed a " round robin ' calling upon the Mayor to resign his seat, as they decline to sit any longer if he occupies the Mayoral chair. " The Mayor issued a challenge to one of the councillors, Mr Gray, that both should resign and contest the Mayoralty, and that if Mr Gray were beaten, he and five other councillors should give an undertaking not to re-enter municipal politics for live years, the Mayor giving a similar undertaking in the event of his defeat.
