THE MILITARY.

A COTTON WAREHOUSE

FIRED.

FATAL CONFLICT WITH A

FIRE BRIGADE,

London, April 18. The shipowners, after considering the terms of the proposed compromise, remitted the final decision to the Federation. The proposals stipulate for freedom of organisation both to the Unions and the Federation, and that the shipowners are not to show any preference to non-Unionists.

The press is unanimous in considering the dock strike settled.

Brussels, April 19,

Frequent collisions have taken place at Antwerp between the strikers and military, and most of the engagements have been accompanied by bloodshed.

A large cotton warehouse in Antwerp was set on fire by rioters, who also attempted to seize a candle factory at Bergerhout, and stoned the Fire Brigade who guarded the building.

The Brigade fired on the attacking party, killing three of them and wounding four.
