A GRUESOME DISCOVERY.

(BY. TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

Gisborne, bhis day. A gruesome discovery was made this morning by a gardener whilo digging a plot of land close to town. From a small space, two yards in circumference, and eighbeen inches deep, be unearthed no less than nine skulls, one thigh bone, a polvis, and several other bones, in a rather decayed state. The skulls were piled together immediately under a grape vine which grew up bhe 6ido of an old house, which used to stand there. Several of them are remarkably well preserved. Others are somewhat decayed, two or three aro of large size, and others appear to be bhose of females or children. The teeth are in fine condition, which yoes to show that the remains are those of natives. It is thoughb that they may have been collected by a European from some burying-ground and planted under the grape vine. .
