ROAD BOARD MEETING.

W**iE Taotaowa Road Board met at the ''•yriteripn Hotel, ab noon on Saturday, ahere were present Messrs S. Seddon H. R. Brunskill and H. J. "Paton. The finances of the Board are in a vVery satisfactory condition, ib having a (Credit balance of £74 9s ld. During the yasb year tbe expenditure had only been .£69 ls 9d, bub owing to the Auckland Agricultural Company having signified its intention of bringing a large tract of Taotaowa land under cultivation—a very good Eign—it will be necessary to strike a rate lor road making1 purposes. (We .understand the Company intend dealing with some thousands of acres in this district, and have already leb a contract for /clearing 1,300 acres ready for the plough.) !A disputed account for ill 0.3 9d, which had ijbeen left over from the previous meeting, .•was settled, and after it had been arranged ''that, Mr Brunskill should retire from the /'Board this year, the meeting terminated. £Mr Brunskill will be nominated again ; indeed v.sre he bo refuse ib would be a difficult matter to fill the vacancy, for settlers :'are few and far between in Taotaowa.

On Tuesday 'he give* his special literary and musical evening, and from appearances we judge ho ;Jnay regain a portion of the £70 he is stated to have dropped in Auckland. THE CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW. Everything bids fair to make this a great) Success, and since one of the Cambridge .Society, Mr T. Wells, waa the "runner up " for the champion prize at bbc Auckland Show, the obher members of the local .Society have been very jubilant, The weokiy half-holiday will be hold on Friday —the opening day—instead of on Wednesday, as is usual. A goodly number of Aucklanders are coming to try conclusions With the Cantabs, and the contest will be keen.
