THE CLERK OF THE PRESBYTERY.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—My anonymous traducer now appears before your readers a3 tho Rev. T. F. Robertson. I leave them to judge oHbe spirit and tactics of the roan who hides behind anom deplume that ho may severely and unjustly wound a brother minister through the press. His desporate efforts to rai.se public indignation against me are unworthy of a Christian teacher. If, as he cays, my first letter was " very hurtful to the relief fund," the blame lies with him, not with me. It was he who by his anonymous attack upon the officials called forth that letter, and if he thinks I can sib quietly and permit myself to be unjustly maligned he doest not know me. It would grieve mo, to do injury to any good cause, but the blame of causelessly stirring up unpleasantness in this matter rests with Mr Robertson. There would have been nothing but the most perfect cordiality had he not taken occasion to make an unwarranted and most unjust attack upon mo. That the cause has not suffered, as he affirms, is surely proved by the large sum of money raised and son!) from Auckland. His charges I have nothing to say to at present, the public is nob the proper tribunal to judge these. It would be an easy task to exposß his misrepresentations and assumptions, but they are brought against me a3 an official, and as such I am answerable only to the Court. I will therefore ask tho Presbytery to judge of Mr Robertson's conduct in this matter and of mine.—l am, etc., Robt. Sommerville.
