OUR FOOTBALLERS.

That we have had too much football in Auckland this season was folly demonstrated on Saturday last, when a match was played between the players living in East Auckland and those living on the wesb side, the proceeds of which were in aid of the Wbangarei boabing disaster fund. Teams were selected and the match was arranged outside of the Rugby Union, and it was not till Thursday evening that the managing committee were approached on the matter, when they were asked to grant it their support. Unfortunately, the public have had too much football this year, and to ensure a successful "gate," tickets should have been issued early in the week, when no doubt thousands of Aucklandere, who heartily sympathise with the sufferers by the recent fatality, would have willingly accorded their support, although not intending to witness the match. As ib was, no tickets were issued, and the match proved a complete failure, only 150 spectators being present. A game was played with eleven men a side, but it was a very poor display of Rugby football.

Soon after the commencement of the play it became apparent that the majority of those engaged had very little interest in the game, and a few of them tried to make a burlesque of the contest The game resulted in an easy victory for the Westenders by 44 points to 18. For the winners, the following scored tries :—O'Connor, 3; P. Mackie, 2; Blewden, 2 ; Donald, 2; Smith, 1; Hales, 1. O'Connor converted 5 tries into goals, and R. Green 1, while Blewden potted a goal from the field. For the East, tries were gained by—Gaudin, 2; Elliott, 2; CaultOD, 1 and Edmonds. 1, while Elliott and Edmonds each kicked a goal from a try. Mr T. Whiteside officiated as referee.

Auckland Foresters v. Okehothja.— After a very bard and fast game the former won by five points to nil. A try scored by Sinclair was converted by Corles. In the evening the Auckland team was entertained at a very enjoyable social in the public hall. Mantjkau 11. v. Victoria.—This match was played at Onehunga on Saturday, when Manukau 11. won by 65 points bo nil.
