RESULTS OF THE POLLING.
The following are the results of the municipal elections for the return of Councillors in the city and suburbs, which took place yesterday. Most of the results of the polling were declared by the returning officers shortly before seven o'clock : — AUCKLAND CITY. The election for the return of a City Councillor for the South Ward resulted : A. E. Glover , ... 379 Dr. H. Walker ... ... ... 361
Mr Glover is therefore elected. There were four informal votes. At the declaration of the results of the polling, Mr Glover returned thanks to the ratepayers presenb for electing him. For Karangahape Ward the election resulted : John Trenwith 234 John Patterson ... 199 Mr Trenwith is therefore elected. Six informal votos were recorded.
For Grafton Ward MrHewson was elected. The polling was: . y, ~,., J". W.Hewson ... ... ... 115 T. Hedger ... ... ... 110 NEWTON BOROUGH.
Out of 200 voters in the Newton Borough districb, only 92 recorded their votes. Mr A. Holden was returned for1 the Surrey Ward. The polling was: , ;;.;• .Andrew Holden... ... A- 67 Charles Bates -...44 PARNELL BOROUGH. A large crowd gathered at the Borough Council offices in Parnell ..last evening to hear the declaration of the results of the poll taken for the return of three Councillors for the borough. Considerable regreb was' expressed at the failure of Mrs Matson, tbe female candidate, to secure election, and Messrs John Page, E. Withy, and R. Walker were elected.
