BOARD OF REVIEWERS.
This morning, the Board of Reviewers of values under the Land and Income Assessment Act, 1891, sab at bhe R.M. Courbhouse, High-street. The Board of Reviewers were: Mr W. J. Courtney (Chairman), U. A. Tole and George Johnstone. Mr CM. Crombie, Government Commissioner of Taxes, was present.
SOUTH WARD. Assessors : E. Bartley, F. Cherry and G. Fraser. Henry Hewin, lessee's interest, corner of Queen and VVellesley-3treets, £5,500. Mr W. Thorne appeared on behalt of the objector. He said the objection -was entirely a question of the rental value of the property. Mr Fraser said thab the annual letting value of the property was £800, bub the assessors made no allowance for any of the premises being unleb. Mr Thorne contended that £4,500 was a fair valuation of the property. The valuation of the'lessee's interest*was reduced bo £5,000. Andrew Bell, city endowment, Greysbreeb. Mr Fraser said bhat the lessee's interesb was valued ab £2,250, land £2,000, and buildings ab £1,000.' There were 32 years of bhe lease yeb' to run out of bhe original 50. The Board reduced the valuation on the building by £50. . L. H. Neumegen, two shops, Grey-street, £720. The objector said his valuation was £400. He thought the land was not worth more than £5 per foob. A reduction of £60 was made. L. H. Neumegen, cottages, Wollingtonsbreeb; reduced from £230-bo'£-40. L. H. Neumegen, Hobson-street, £1,560 ; valuation susbained. - John McElwain, Grey-streeb, £1,150. Mr Guiliver said the owner of the property was willing to sell ib for £600. The valuation was reduced to that sum. Mrs Greenway, Grey-streeb, £960; reduced bo £900. William Adams, £4,500. This was a block of land with 198 feeb frontage to Grey-street, on which a number of houses were erected ; reduced to £3,000. A. T. Good, Vincent-streeb, £390 ; reduced to £350. James Watson, Vincent-street, £750 ; reduced to £710. Mrs Greenway, Hobson-street, £1,500 ; reviuced to £1,400. Mrs Chamberlin, house and ground, Eden Crescent. The property was originally valued at £1,650, but was reduced by the Commissioner to £1,450. Mrs Chamberlin appeared, and said this was not sufficient. She wa3 willing to sell the property tomorrow for £1,200, and furcher she had not got £10 oub of bhe properby in four years. The BoiM'd reduced the valuation to £1,400. Thomas W. Jones, £390, Vincent-street. The valuation had been reduced by the Commissioner to £360, but this was nob thoughb sufficienb by the objector. The valuation of £360 was susbained. T. B. Kenderdine, £1,000, allotment, Vincent-street. Air Shalders appeared, and askect for a reduction to £S00; reduced to £700. . A. T. Good, £2,650, Vincent-street, The objector stated that £3 15s per week was received in rent from the houses on the Und.. Valuation sustained. F. W. Court, £1,620, shops, Karangahape Road. Reduced bo £1,300. T'.. B. Kenderdine, £2,800, allotment and houses, Grey-streeb. Mi Shalders asked for ££00 reduction. Reduced to £2,700. J. W. James, Grey-street, £500 ; reduced to £460. Mise Dawson, £796, Hobson • street. Valuation sustained. ■
