■In the live stock columns of the "New • Zealand Farmer" for June the chief question dealt with is-the crossbreeding of cheep, but there is also an interesting arbicle hearing upon the selling ot tab stock W by live weight,, by which it is shown thab bhe ■ "carcase weight can be estimated almost to - a pound by ascertaining the live weight of a beast. There are illustrations of some newly-imported Southdown ewes from bhe Sandringham flock of the, Prince of Wales and a portrait of a New Zealand-bred Shorthorn bull. For dairy farmers, among other items is an instructive, article on e'arger, or inflamed udder of milking cows. There is a special contribution on the '-■' Renmark and Mildura irrigation colonies of Messrs Chaffey Bros., which those thinking of taking up land there would do woll , to read. In. the garden department - the series of articles on small fruit culture is continued, the subjecb this month being V currants, with illustrative engravings. In "Orchard Notes" will be found some valuable hints on fruit-tree planting, and the selection of varieties, as well as a budget of letters from fruitgrowers on the quesbion of legislating against bho codlin moth pest. The entomological columns are as usual interesting and instructive. • Poultry fanciers will be interested by an . arbicle on the subject of trimming fowls for exhibition purposes. The leading article is on the question of the relative merits ot the Down and Lincoln cross for the production of frozen raubton sheep, and the proposed export bonus on butter is also dealt with. In the special industries department, the subjects of broom corn and oil of lemons are practically dealt with.
