AMERICAN PRESIDENCY.
MR HARRISON NOMINATED.
SCENES OF WILD EXCITEMENT.
THE PRESS ON MR BLAINE'S
DEFEAT.
Washington, June 11. Harrison was nominated by Mr Chauncey Depew for the Presidency, and the first ballot gave him a majority or 18. The announement was received with acclamation.
Only one ballot was taken in the election for President. Mr Harrison obtained 538 votes, Mr J. G. Blame and Major McKinley each 182, Mr Reid 4, and Mr Lincoln 1. An indescribable scene of wild excitement greeted the result. The English press is elated at Mr Blame's roiife, and the defeat of his so-called master move in resigning. The result of the election has also been welcomed in the Dominion of Canada.
•Mr Whifcelaw Reid, former United States Minister in Paris, has unanimously been nominated for the position of Vice-presi-dent.
Mr Blame has issued a manifesto, in which he urges the party to rally against and defeat the common enemy.
