BAPTIST DISTRICT ASSOCIATION.
A few years ago the New Zealand Baptist; Union was formed, and more recently District Associations have been formed in connection with the Union. The inaugural meeting of the Auckland District was held yesterday afternoon in the Tabernacle, when the following delegates attended: — Messrs S. H. Matthews, R. B. Shalders, H. ]S rewton, Ellingham, J. T. Garlick. Mount Eden : Rev. G. D. Cox, and Messrs Champion and Penman. Ponsonby : Rev. J. D. Gilmore, and Messrs G. VV. Owen, E. Turley, J.Graham, and R. Reeve. Thames: Rev. W. R. WoJley, and Messrs J. Renshaw (Mayor of Thames), and J. Lovatfc. The Rev. C. Carter was elected a ministerial member, and the Rev. W. R. Woolley was voted to the chair. The first business was tho adoption of the following constitution :—(1) Thab the name of the Association shall be the Baptist Union of New Zealand Auckland District Association. (2) That the Association shall be comprised of the churches within tbe Provincial District of Auckland that are in membership with the Union, together with their branches, (3) That tbe objects of tho Association shall bo to foster brotherhood and devotion . amongst our members, and. the work of the Union and tho'Missionary Society, and to further tbe interests of the denomination in the province. 4. That the meetings of the Association be held half-yearly, in the months of March and September. 5. That tho assembly shall consist} of pa&tora-and delegates of. the churches and branches forming tho Association ; each church to have the right vu send four delegates, and each branch two, with one additional delegate for every 100 members after the first 100. 6. That the officers of the Association shall consist of a chairman, a vice-chairman, and a secretary and treasurer ; and that a Committoo of five members, in addition to the officers, be formed. 7. That the vice-chairman of tho present year shall be the chairman of the next. ' Officers.—The following were elected officers -.—Chairman, Rev. J. D. Gilmore ; vice-chairman, Rev. W. R. Woolley ; secretary and treasurer, Rev. G. 1). Cox; committee, Messrs S. H. Matthews, James Rensbaw, J. Graham, J. T. Garlick, and J. Penman. Resolutions,---It was decided to hold the annual meeting in March, that churches ba reminded to appoint delegates, that the next; meeting be held in Ponsonby. A resolution was alao adopted commending Miss E. Arnold, the Zenana missionary. At 6.30 the delegates and a number of friends partook of tea which had been provided, and an hour later the evening meeting was held, when Mr S. H. Matthews presided. The Rev. W. R. Woolley read a paper on " The Relation of the Association to the Union," and the Rev. J. D. Gilmore contributed another upon " The Essentials of Success For Our Local Organisations."
