The new school and teacher's house at Buckland are now completed, and reflect great credit on the contractors, Messrs Wriffley and Mathews, who have finished the job in a first-class workman-like manner, and to the entire satisfaction of all concerned. Mr Chappell, the teacher, opened school last Monday with an attendance of 30 children, and the number will increase as time goes on, there being others who intend gome, and aboub 30 children under age.—(Correspondent.) A " Picturesque Atlas " case set down on tboR.M. Court list to-day was adjourned till to-morrow, in the hope that in the meantime 1 settlement may be arrived at. Other cases are pending. It would seom that the delivery of the " Atlas " is still being prosecuted. A well-known Auckland citizen who had been absent from his office very recently, on returning found a mysterious parcel awaiting him. It turned out to be a huge bundle of " Picturesque Atlas " parts, and as he had previously declined to accept delivery, he consulted a solicitor as to what course he should pursue. Acting upon legal advice, he then despatched tha parcel to what he understood to be tho local agency, and duly informed the solicitors who have been acting for the "Atlas" people of the course ho had pur»ued.

Miss Matthews, L.L.A., Principal of the Mount Eden Collegiate School, was a passenger to-day by the s.s. Manapouri, en roure for Napier, to take up the duties of Head-mistress of the Girls' High School at that place, to which she has been lately appointed. There was a large crowd of people on the Queen-street Wharf to-day, when the s.s. Manapouri left for the South, bidding good-bye to the numerous friends and acquaintances on board. The MontagueTurner Opera Company left by her to proceed to Napier, where they open for a short season, and a very largo number ef the theatrical community ab present in Auckland were down on the wharf wishing them lon voyage and good luck. For Napior there was also on board Mrs Rees and family, who are going to reside there permanently, and a large circle of friends and acquaintances were present to see them off. The steamer had a large number of passengers, and these had all many friends amongst those present bidding them goodbye.

John Freestone, the littlo boy who was so badly injured through being run over by a cart in Kyber Pass Road on Tuesday evening as to necessitate his removal to the Hospital, 13 still in a bad condition. Four of his rib 3 are broken, and the cart appears to have travelled right across hi 3 body. It is stated by those who saw the accident that the cart which ran over the boy was on the wrong side of the road, and was being driven very fast. The injured boy is only seven years of age. His parents reside in Ecien Terrace.

The Wellington tramway strike i 3 at last at an end. At a special meeting of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council yesterday, it> was stated that circumstances had arisen in the last few days which led the Council to believe that it would be unable to raise the necessary money to establish a line of omnibuses in opposition to the tram*-" ways. In the interests of the public and the men who had stood out, it was decided to declare the strike at an end. At a meeting of strikers, thi3 resolution was endorsed, and a motion passed, declaring the Council had done eveiything in its power to bring'the strike to a successful issue for the strikers. Of 29 men who went out, 10 have returned to the Tramway Company, and 10 found other employment. The Trades Council will endeavour to obtain work for the nine who held out till the last.
