AUCKLAND ROWING CLUB.
PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES
A very enjoyable gathering of members of the Auckland Rowing Club was held last evening in Mr J. Gallagher's British Hotel, Queen-street, tho aflair taking the form of a smoke concert, for the purpose of presenting the medals won by the Auckland Club men at the recent Pine Island Rowing Regatta, and the presentation of the colours of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association to Mr M, Keefe, a member of tho Club, also the presentation of medals. Thore was a large attendance of members, the President of the Club, Mr John Marshall, being in the chair, supported on his right by Mr M. Keefe, and on his left by Mr T. Henderson, captain of the Club. After the usual loyal and patriotic toasts had been gone through, the Chairman presented tho medals for members of the Auckland Rowing Club under 21 years of a^e to Messrs A. Dacro, 11. Jones, S. J. Clarke, G. E. Howard, F. J. Mack (coxswain). Mr Marshall said that his reason for giving tho modals to a junior crow was to endeavour to bring them forward, and he was well satisfied with the resulb of his experiment. The presentation of the medals was received with cheers. The Chairman then presented Mr M. Koefe, the Amateui Champion oarsman of New Zealand, with the Association colours, a handsome cap and jackob, and in doing so warmly congratulated the recipient on his success. He said thab ib was the first time since the Amateur Sculling Championship competitions had been inaugurated thab one of their number had succeeded in winning tho trophy, and he sincerely hoped chab if Mr Keefo wenb in for professional sculling—in which ho would have an excellent show—ho would not forget his old Club. Mr Keefo suitably responded. Medals were presentod to Messrs G. Barrett, A. N. Gibbons, R. Broberg, C. F. Minnitt, A. H. Bueby, A. Dacre, H. Cramond, and J. Graham. Tho health of the successful competitors was proposed by Mr L. JVJyers, and was respondod to by Messrs Keefe, A. N. Gibbons, Busby and Clarke. Mr T. Henderson, captain of the Club, proposed tho toasb of "Rowing," MrF. W. Edwards responding. Mr Edwards remarked that it was his hope to yet see " Mick " Keefe competing successfully for the championship of the world. Mr Lowe (Nelson), Mr J. B. Graham (Ponsonby), and Mr Bankhart (St. George's R. C.), also responded. M r Graham proposed tho toast of " The Press,"and MrC. C. Dacre thehealth of " Mr J. Marshall," the President of the Club, as Auckland's foremost aquatic patron. Mr Marshall, after responding, proposed the health of Mr T. Henderson, Captain of the Club, who responded in suitable terms. The healths of the ladies and of Mr J. Gallagher, the host, closed the proceedings. During the evening songs, recitations and other items of entertainment were given by Messrs L. Myers, J. B. Graham, T. Honderson, R. St. Clair, Graham, and others, and were very woll received. Tho gathering was a very enjoyable ono throughout, and was a very pleasant social re-union of mombers of the Club.
