DEATH OF MR E. HODGSON.

This morning an old and well-known resident of Parnell died at the Hospital in the person of Mr Edward Hodgson, of Brighton Hood. Mr Hodgson was well known as a coal and firewood merchant in Auckland, and al?o as owner of several coasting vessels. He was connected with the' Auckland Kegatia Committee for many years past, and had acted as starter at the last annual rogatta in the Waitemata. Mr Hodgson waa a prominent member of the Parnell Congregational Church, at which ho waa a very regular attendant, and also took part in Sunday-school work in connection with the Congragationali&ts, His loss wiill be severely felt by this bodyHe was also a member of the Parnell Oddfellows' Lodge, and of the Auckland Workingmen's Friendly Aid Society, besides being a member of the Masonic fraternity. He_ had been for the last five weeks in the Hospital, suffering from typhoid fever, which brought on congestion of the lungs. Ho had been very dangerously ill for the last three days, gradually growing worse until shortly before ■ 11; o'clock this morning, when he expired. He was 4,7 years of age, and: leaves a widow and eleven children, three of whom are now ill with typhoid fever, liia second son Charles being at present in the Hospital The Hodgsons are a well-known and respected family in Parnel!. A niece of the deceased, the daughter of Mr W. Hodgson is married to Mr Philip Wirth, of Wirth's circus.
