The Bank of England returns published to-day show the total reserve in notes and bullion to bo £15,264,000. Thojpvoportion of the reaervo to liabilities is 4278. Consols are 9G£. Three months' bills are discounted at 1| per cent. New Zealand 4 per cent, lnscnbeu stock is ; U ditto, 9-1 k> New Zealand long-berried wheat ia 38s Bd, weaker. Canterbury mutton is 4gd ; beef, hindquarter?, 4d. t Hemp ia depressed, and no New Zoaland shipments huvo been offered for sale of lute. Colonial oats : Fino quality, 273 ; common, 255. < South Australian whoat is <>93 oil, steady ; Victorian, 395, active. For Australian wheat, on passage, sellers are asking 39d, but buyers refuse to give more than 33s 6d. . . German sugar, 13?. quieb ; Java, 15s 3d. No. I best Scotch pig iron, f.0.b., in Clyde, 4!s, Hat. . . Wool is unclianced. The third series is limited to 425,000 bales. The quantity for the fourth series, which begin on tho 13th September, is unlimited. Tho date of tho fifth eerios has not yot been fixed, but the list closes on November 98i- J ■
