TRAGEDY NEAR KAMO.

STABBING and SHOOTING,

ARREST OF THE OFFENDER,

HE ADMITS HIS GUILT.

Particulars came to hand this morning oi a most horrible tragedy which took place yesterday morning at Helena Bay, near Kamo. The victim was Arthur Rattan, and the perpetrator of tho deed Robert Butler. Both men were settlers at Helena Bay.

Ib appears from a confession made by Butler to the police that he had a quarre with Kattan yesterday morning abou money matters, when Kattan drew a knife and stabbed him in three places in the chest, which the man bears marks of. Butler thon drew a revolver and shot Kattan dead. A man named Loosmore reported the fatal occurrence to Constable stationed at Kamo, this morning ab halfpasb eight. Tho constable immediately wenb in pursuit of Butler, and found him making off in tho Hikurangi 'bus for Whanßarei. Ho arrested him, and after doing so Butler confessed his guilt of the crime, and gave tho constable particulars of how the fatal

quarrel arose. Both tho men aro foreigners. Helena Bay, tho scene of the murder, is situated up the coast about 30.miles from Kamo. Constable Moore and Dr. Hall proceeded this morning from Kamo to Helena Bay to hold the usual investigation and make inquiries into the affair.
