ANNUAL RACES.

The annual races and 3ports in connection with the Wellesley-street public school were held to-day in the Domain Cricket Ground. Thero was a large attendance of the scholars, and with the fine weather that provailed they evidently enjoyed themselves very much. The ground was in splendid order, and the races, which wero run under the supervision of the teachers, proved to be very interesting and exciting, close finishes being the order. The younger scholars were kept busily engaged by the lady teachers in racing and skipping events for trophies and prizes such as delight the hearts of the youngsters. A mosb enjoyable day was spent, and the children left in time to take part ia Sir George Grey's birthday celebration, in the principal races Mr W. H. Drallin acted as starter and Mr W. M. Gelling as judge. The following are the results of the different events :—

School Cup. — First heat (100 yds) Rylance, 1; Cruickshank, 2 ; Young, 3. Second heat (200 yds): Rylance, 1; Jackson, 2.

100 Yards (boys 12 years and under).— Giles, Ist ; Soccombe, 2nd ; Tremaioe, 3rd.

100 Yards (boys of Standard IV.) Cot tingham, Ist.

100 Yards (boys 13 years and under).— Bruce, Ist; Seccombe, 2nd; Madden, 3rd 100 Yards (three-logged race).—Wild brown and Clarke, Ist.

1 Mile Walk.—Craig, Ist; Hanson, 2nd. Won after a very closo race. 100 Yards (boys 14 years and under). — Smith, Ist; Hume, 2nd ; Clapcott, 3rd. The Ponsonby Public School had intended to hold their sports to-day also, but doubtless on account of the inauspicious weathor in tho earlier part of the day, they decided to postpone them till this day fortnight.

Quarfer-milo Handicap.—Rylance, Ist; liume, 2nd ; Clapcotb, 3rd. School Cup Fin 1 Heat (300 yds).— Jackson and Uylunce, tie.
