POLICE COURT.—THIS DAY:

Drunkenness. — Martha McManua was lined 103, or 48 hours, for having been drunk.

Breaking Windows.—Lily Barretb was charged with having, on the Bth February, maliciously broken twelve panes of glass, value 9s, the property of Catherine Hardwick.—Defendant pleadoi not guilty.— William Dodge deposed to seeing the windows broken. —Constable Gordon deposed to arresting the accused who denied the charge.—Mrs Hardwick upon being called did not appear.—Defendant said she was in bed when the windows were broken. —Dr. Giles said as the informant was nob present he would not impose a penalty adequate to the offence. A fine of ss, or 24 hours in default, was imposed.

Destitute Persons Act.—Roberb James was charged with having failed to comply with an order of the Court to contribute towards the support ot his two children, and with having allowed £30 arrears to accumulate. —Mr Tole appeared and offered 123 6d per week on behalf of the defendant.—Mr John Strathern appeared on behalf of the Charitable Aid Board, and said he would be willing to accept the amount provided there was some security for payment. —Dr. Giles adjourned the case for a week to see if the defendant would pay £2 down. Bail waß allowed defendant in £10, and one surety in a similar amount.

Stray Cows.—Robert Morgan was fined 143 and costs for having allowed seven cows to stray at Newmarket. He said that he considered that the City Council ought to be fined, and not himself, as the Domain fences were out of repair. He paid a heavy rent to graze.
