ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

Mary Elizabeth Poktisg appeared on remand at the Police Court this morning to answer the charge of having taken a deadly drug, namely, laudanum, with intent to kill herself.

Sergeant-Major Pratt said that the woman had been remanded for n weak, as she was thought to be Buffering from the effects of drink. Their information was that sho had been drinking. The police did not now intend to proceed further with the case, as the woman had now recovered.

Dr. Giles said the question was whether there was any serious risk of the same thing happening again.

Sergt.-Majoc Pratt &aid that tho woman had informed the constable this morning that she was still in very low spirits. — Dr. Giles decided to remand her again for eight days, and if before that time he could be satisfied it would be safe to discharge her, he would do so.
