WELCOME DOWNPOUR OF RAIN.
The steady downpour of rain thab prevailed all day will be welcome both in town and country. Outside of the area watered by the Western Springe supply, water was getting scarce, and crops were assuming a parched appeurance. Harvesting in this district is practically over unci the rain is not likely to do so much harm, while iho advantages will be great. The wind, which was blowing from the southeast this mtrning went round by the westward during tho forenoon, and this afternoon blefr S.S.E., accompanied by heavy rain. \ Afc 1.20 p.IB. Captain Edwin wired :— " Southeast tJ south and west gale, with {/lasa rising."! Tho change is somewhat ahead of the prediction. _I (BY TELEGRAPH. —OVX CORRESPONDENT.)
