The gala promises to be a very successful affair. The number of entries for each event is large, and there is every pro3pecb of keen competition taking place. The executive have made complete arrangements for illuminating, etc., and seats will be provided; a stringed band will also be its attendance, and as the charge for admission is very small no doubt there will be a largo number to witness what to Auckianders is a complete novelty.

The Templars of lodge 20, New Zealand Order, gave a social last night in the Masonic Hall, Otahuhu. There was a large gathering of members and friends from Onehunga and Auckland, and a pleasant evening was spent. The following programme was submitted : —Mr Cunnold, speech; Mr Ayers, song, encored; Mr Toms, song; Miss McCloud, song, encored ; Mr John Gillies, song ; Miss Jones, recitation; Mr Taylor, hornpipe; and. Messrs Rogers and Jones, nigger farco and dance. After supper, dancing was kept up with great vigour until two o'clock, when, the visitors departed for home.
