CITY REFUSE AT MOUNT ALBERT.

THE RESIDENTS' PROTEST.

Last night a meeting of residents and ratepayers of the Moun I . Albert district, was hold in the Christians' Meeting House, New North Read, to protest against city refuso being deposited in the districtThero wore between 30 and 40 present, including two ladies. Mr E. Perkins was voted to tho chair, and Mr A. Mercer appointed secretary to tho meeting, ' Tho Chairman stated the object as boing one that concerned every resident in the district. Referring to tho deposit and accumulation of city refuse, he said tho same had been going on for tho last eight years, until ib had become an intolerable nuisance, and at last thoy had determined to uso every moans in their power, and do thoir utmost to stop ib. He explained this meeting had been brought | about owing to their failure in appealing to the local Board of Health, tho Mount Albert Road Board, and called attention to the fact that tho Board, at a special meeting on January sth, passed a resolution to the | effect thab "if any person deposited ! city refuse or other material likely to 'become a nuisance, thoy would bo proscicuted without further notice." This I was duly advertised, and letters sent Ito contractor to the fame cf.'ect by j tho Chairman of tho- Board, but for sonic 1 reason had not. been acted upon. The city | contractor stili continued to deposit the iilth in several different places in the district, thus setting the local Board of Health i ab defiance, and consequently feeling l.hemselvesstrongly aggrieved they had taken tho matter in their own hands and decided to apply to the Central Board of Health for l'olief, and with this end in view a subcommittee had conferred together and drafted cut a letter proposed to bo sent to the Central Board of Health. This'letter was then read to the mooting, also letters from Drs. Lindsay, li'aiuea'and Wine to Mr Hirst, the Inspector of Nuisances, and his report on the deposit also. These had been submitted to the special meeting of the Road Board, along with a petition from about 20D residents, begging them to take action to stop l the deposit"of any more city refuse. i Mr J.
