ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly mooting of the above was held last night in the Council Cham bers. Present : Messrs Burden, Barr, Bray, Hills, Koehan, Mnor.ey, Shaldrick and Tapp. Tho Mayor elect, Dr. W. R. Erson, having been introdeced, took the customary oaths and the chair.
The Mayor remarked that this was the second timo lie had made the declaration, and as Mayor he would endeavour to do his duty faithfully to tho borough. In a public body differences might occur, bub ho hoped the members of tho Council would work with him harmoniously for the benefit of tho town. Referring to tho cemetery quostion, His Worship said that ho had always been in favour of the Waikaraka site, contrary assertions notwithstanding. Ho concluded by thanking the Councillors and the ratepayers for their confidence reposed in him as shown that day by his return unopposed. (Applause.) The Town Clerk, Mr Angus Gordon, was recommended by the Council to bo the clerk to the Onehunga Licensing Bench.
A subsidy of £114 14s 4d was acknowledged, having boon placed to the credit of ttie borough funds.
Messrs Russell and Campbell sonfc in an amended account of £130 which was ordered to be considered by tho Council in Committee on the 25th insfc.
Christchurch, this day. A good representative meeting of citizens under the presidency of the Mayor of Christchurch, decided to entertain the Governor and Countess of Onslow at luncheon on a date convenient to His Excellency.
