DISTRESSING SUICIDE.

NO FRIENDS AND NO WORK.

(by telegraph.—press association.)

Christchurch, this day. At the inquest on bhe body of the young man found shot at Fendalton, the evidence showed he had beeu a pattern-maker, not long out from Home, and had lately come down from Wellington. He was out of work, and had had none since his arrival in the colony. There was no further evidence of identification, beyond tho fact that he gave the name of A. Horton to the pawnbroker with whom he pawned his watch. The verdict was .that he shoo himself.

There is now on view in Mr Steadman's window, Queen-street, a fine specimen of the Japanese plum " Ogtm " (large yellow). These plums are from three-year-old trees, grown by Mr Clem Bartley at his orchard. Willow Bank, Hellyer's Creek. The trees are fine, healthy, vigorous growers, and tha fruit is of large size and delicious flavour. Judging from appearance, the " o_an " ia well worth our fruitgrowers' notice.
