INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
PRAYERS FOR ITS ABATEMENT.

London, January 18.
In the churches yesterday, specialprayers were offered for the abatement oi influenza.
Sir Edwin Arnold, who has been suffering from influenza and pneu-. monia, is recovering.
Obituaries: Hon. Algernon Tollemache, formerly of Wellington, New Zealand, and Mr Benjamin Scoitj F.R.C.S., Chamberlain of London j both suffered from influenza.
Influenza continues severe both in Germany and Great Britain, and a thousand cases are reported in Croy« don.
It is also spreading in France.
The press generally recommend the Government to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the best means of arresting the spread of influenza.
