THE TROTTING CUP.
With reference to the protest against Brandy, the winner of the Auckland Trotting Club Cup, tho Nolson correspondent of tho Christchurch " Referee" wires:—"Mr A. E. Greon, owner of Rarus, alleges that Brandy performed in Sydney under another name. Tho horse is said to have arrived in Wellington early last, March and was taken up the Wairarapa and thence in a zigzag manner senb to Auckland. Ho trotted at tho Otahuhu Meeting on tho 21st of thab month, and it is worthy of note thab on the first day in tho Maiden Trot he started without a single pound invested on him in tho totalisator. Ho did not gob a placo, nevertheless the next day in the big trot of three miles no loss than 142 tickets wore invested on hint, bub lie disappointed his friends badly, for he did not got a place. His party perhaps had asked him a question too soon after his journey, for" the time in this race was very slow, being 9min 34 4-sth sec. The horse is supposed to bo owned by a syndicate in Auckland."
