THE BARRIERS BREAKING

Tk Awamutu, this day. From wliafc Mr Cadman says, I learn the Urcwcra natives aro entering on the first stage towards breaking up the strict isolation which they havo" maintained toward Europeans for so long. Mr Oliver Fairs, surveyor, has obtained permission under Government auspices from the Ureweras to survey thoroughly some two hundred-thousand acres of territory inland from Ruatoke, in the Whakatane district. This is not improbably with a view to its acquisition by the Government. x\ny prospecting will result, however, in the expulsion of the survey party. ■
