HIS PROBABLE SUCCESSOR,
London, January 17. The remains of the late Cardinal Manning are lying in state. The burial will take place on Thursday at Kensal Green.
The labour unions have passed resolutions regretting the Cardinal's death. Monsignor Gilbert Virtue and Bishop Bagshawe, of Nottingham, aro also mentioned as likely to succeed Manning.
Paris, January 17.
The " Gaulois " describes Cardinal Manning as a fearless upholder of the now socialism.
" Le Staffette" considers ho was the best expounder of univorsal Catholicism.
