INVERCARGILL.
Rain fell on New Year's morning, but cleared off about noon, and remained fair for the rest of the afternoon. Five thousand attended the Caledonian games, the takings at the gates alone amounting to £176. On Saturday morning the weather was fine. Immense numbers went by train to the Bluff; where a regatta took place.
