EXHIBITIONS.

The Auckland Academyof Arts opewed its doors by a smart conversazione on Dec. 9. The President, Mr Steele, assisted by his confrere, Mr Wabkine, received the guests. The hall was very prettily decorated, a fountain playing in the centre, and a feature being the hanging ferus, which looked particularly pretty hung at intervals all down each aide of the hall. There were crowds round all the principal pictures. The prizes were awarded aa follows :—Class I.: " New Zealand SefctleK'a Home," no award. Class II.: ".New Zealand Landscape" (silver medal oi the Academy), T. Ryan. Class III.: "Study of a Maori Head" (bronze medal of the Academy), Miss Wright. Clas3lV.: "Study of New Zealand Birds" (bronze medal of the Academy), C. F. Goldie. ClassV.: "Study of New Zealand Trees" (bronze medal of Academy),!" , . S. West. Class VI. : "Study of New Zealand Flowers " (bronze medal of the Academy), Miss Bell.

■Representabivesot the Christchurch Chamber of Commerce and Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and Industrial Association, met) the Hon. Mr Seddon on Dec. 3, and carried a motion that New Zealand should be suitably represented at the World's Fair, in Chicago. Before the motion was carried, Mr fcSeddon spoke at length on the advantages likely to accrue to New Zealand by its representation at the Exhibition. He warmly supported she motion.

A show of strawberries held on Dec. 5 under the auspices of the Birkenhead and Northcote Fruitgrowers' Association was well patronised. The judges were Messrs D. The Arch Hill Wesleyan Cake and Apron Fair held on December 16 was a greab success. An Industrial Exhibition in connection with the Epiphany Band of Hope was hold on December 9, 10, and 11, at St. George's Hall, Newton.
