NEWTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

PoiJNJMvjiEPER.—A letter was road from Mr J. W. Binns resigning-, the office of poundkeeper. — The resignation was accepfcod. lb was further resolved to offer the position to.Mr Skeen. .

Slaughtkk - Hoxrsu LICENSES.-Aliellflby Bros, applied to have their slautrhter-house license in the borough renowed. —Tho licenso was granted on the same terms as last; year, viz,, £51 (maximum fees included). Mr Tfaoh. Fnulder also applied to the Council to renew the licenso for the Klaijii-htor-hoiiße known as blip Auckland Tallow Company's, but asked that the amount charged for license fees be reduced. lie said that the borough absorbed nearly tho whole of the gross revenue for the past year in rates and license fees. The gross earnings for throe months had been £13.—1t was proposed that tho license be reduced to £20. Cr. "English thought it would be better not to renew the license at tiiat figure, an it would be money saved ; for the cattle traffic broke up their roads.—lb was eventually resolved to adjourn the matter for a fortnight, so that Mr Faulder's books might be inspectod by tho Town Clerk.

Water Consumption.—Tho Town Clerk reported the water consumption for tho fortnight was 211,000 gallons.

Accounts.—Various small accounts were passed for payment.
