Tho players were paired a≤ follows, the htst Mentioned in each ca«e having the brat move :-Mr Hookham (Christchurch) v Vv Seideberg (Dunedin), Mr Bakewell (Welnneton) v. MrLittlejobn (Wβ linjjton), Mr Jowitt (Auckland) v. Mr -Malcolm (Auckland), Mr Trimble (Auckland) v. Me Ashton (Auckland) : Barnes, a bye. Tho time limit ia 15 moves per hour. .Mr Hookham opened his game against Mr Seidebers with tho Zukertort opening, Xt to X B 3 At the luncheon adjournment at "l p.m. IS moves hud been made, and sides were about even. Mr Jowitfe opened against Mr Malcolm with P to K. B. 4, 33 moves being made. The position at tho adjournment was a Cr in C £lr°Tr'imble'3 game 32 moves had been made. He opened his B an.c ajrainst bis opponent with the Kinj: Lopez moi-ement. The positions at the adjournment were about even.
