This afternoon, Constableßowles arrested a man named John W. Leadbeater on a charge otassaulbing a woman named Emma Nash with a Chinese candlestick.
George Egern, a wharf lumper, residing in Chapel-street, has been reported to the police as missing from his home since yesterday. He was in very low spirits, and said that he was going to the North Shore. Hβ has not been seen since yesberday afternoon.
The Courb for tho granting of slaughterhouse licenses has been adjourned till the 30bh insb.
For several years past the Helping Hand Mission have conducted a meeting in the Western Park on the afternoon of Christmas Day. This year the meeting will be of a more representative character, and will be participated in by ministers and laymen identified with all the denominations. Addresses are to be given by Revs. Joseph Berry, T. Spurgeon, J. D. Gilmore, and others.
