MELBOURNE CUP ITEMS.
A Press Association cablegram from Melbourne says Vengeance has gone wrong, and he has been scratched for all engagements at the V.R.C. Meeting. Diequieting rumours are abroad concerning Malvolio but 100 to 10 is still taken about his Mel' bourne Cup chances. Consequent on his splendid gallop yesterday morning, Paris has advanced to the position of first favour, ite for the Melbourne Cup, 100 to 12 being freely accepted about the eon of Grandmaster.
The following horses have been scratched for the Cup :—Linburn, Spokesman, Freedom, and Propounder. Carbine's racing career appears to be at an end. He has started 43 times, and won 33 races—a record thab perhaps* no other horse in the world holds. *
The Tyler is a horso thab has been talked about in connection with the Melbourne Cup. Ab Rosehill (Sydney) races bhe other day, The Tyler was made a great favourite for the October Handicap. So good a thing wa£ it voted for* him that his parby backed him righb merrily, and when the flag fell ib wae 4bo 1 bar him. His show of pace was very poor {says a Sydney paper), and he finished third-last. It ia impossible to understands if this was his true form, how ib ia thab anyone could think he would have a show of winning a Melbourne Cup. JEe looked wearied and worn.
Ib is said that Sir William looks trained to the hour, 3,rid ib has been bruited abroad among the Fltjmingfcon touts that his party is very confident about his Melbourne Cup chance.
The final acceptance for the Melbourne Cup is due otTTuesday next.
