-' Bf!i '}g one day late in leaving San I' raneisoo the O.S.s. Company's smart mailsteamor Mariposa, 3,ooo"tou_, Captain H. M. Haywnrd, did nob arrived here until this morning. She was signalled at about 7.15 a.m., and arrived alongside the Queenstreet \\ harf ab 8.45, after a very fine and pleasant trip from San Francisco by way of Honolulu and Tutuila. Sho brought down in all 110 passengers for the colonies, of whom 35 of both classes aro for Auckland. As usual, tho mail-boat is in excellent order. On thia trip there are soveral changes to note in her 'personnel of officers. -Mr 1.. J. Ifackley, formerly second engineer, is now chief, with Messrs F. Dean, R. O'.Jeada, and ,T. Howell, as lirst, second and third assistants. Our old friend, Mr T. Smith, has resumed tho duties of purser after a spell ashore, while Mr A. Tointon is now chief steward. Of tho passage tho purser reports :—" Wo dropped the pilot at San Francisco on September 18th at 3.15 p.m., immediately on arrival of the English mail, which vvas a day late owing to the detention of the R.M.s. Umbria on the Atlantic. We arrived at Honolulu on September 25th ab 5.42 a.m., and sailed same day ab 5.8 p.m. Anchored in Apia Harbour on October 3rd at 7.5 a.m., and sailed same day at 12.7 p.m. U.S. warship Iroquois, and German cruiser Sperber and the iron barque Castmer. were in harbour there at tho time. Wo experienced tine weather during fche entire voyage, and to-day took the Auckland pilot ab 7.55 a.m., the length of the voyage being 19 days 16 hours. The mailboab pub out her Auckland cargo today and coaled in readiness to resume her voyage to Sydney ab 4 p.m.
