CHRISTMAS NUMBER, With a view to encourage the cultivation of Literature in New Zealand, and at the same titno provide additional attractions for the Stak SPECIAL CHRISTMAS NUMBER, The following Prizes will be offered for competition :— No. I—Christmas Tales. For Tales nob exceeding in length three columns of the Star, haviDg special referjnce to Christmas time, and bavinjr the scene wholly or partially laid in New Zealand, the following prizes will be given :— First Prize £3 0 0 Second Prize, " Defenders ot New Zealand," value 2 0 0 No. 2—Christmas Poem. The Poem must deal with the season as experienced in New Zealand, and not exceed fifty lines in length. Firet Prize, "Early History of New Zealand," value £2 6 0 Second Prize, Handsome Book. No. 3—Juvenile Competition Open to Boys or Girls under 16 years oi age, for the beet NARRATIVE OF NEW ZEALAND LIFE AND ADVENTURE ! (True or fictitious), in length about one | column of the Stak. All contributions must be original, not ! previously published, and written legibly ; on one side of the paper. • 3. Communications must reach the Star I Office not later than Ist November, and i must in every case be accompanied by the 1 name and address of the sender, which i should be enclosed in separate sealed j envelope, marked oubside with a motto ! corresponding with the norn de plume at- j tached to the competition article.
