POLICE COURT.-THIS DAY.
(Before Dr. Giles, R.M.) Drunkenness.—Elizabeth Ellen Lund was fined £1, or in default three days' imprisonment. William Inkstor, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined 40s, or in default 48 hours in gaol. Petty Larceny.—Michael Kisly was charged with having, on tiie 7th inst., stolen two blankets and two jugs, valued at 10s, from the yard of the Albion Hotel, the same being tho property of John Smith. —Evidence was given by Detective Hughes and other witnesses, including a general dealer who-purchased the goods. The prisoner was put in the box and denied the oQ'ence, stating that he bought the articles from another man.—The Bench considered the charge proved, and sentenced Kiely to one month's imprisonment with hard labour. Maintenance. — James Walsh was charged with having failed to contribute towards the support of his mother.—The daughter of the complainant appeared, and stated that her mother, who was 74 years of age, had nob received any support from the son for some months.—An order was made on tho son to contribute 5s a week, towards his mother's supjjort. — Samuel Martin was charged with having neglected to contribute towards the support of his father, who was a destitute person, being ab tho time of auflicienb ability to make some contribution towards hie maintenance.—Joseph Martin, the father, said he was 87 years of age, and was destitute and dependent on others for his support. His son would give him nothing. —The defendant stated that he had offered his father a home ab his place. He was earning very little, bub his obiter brothers were contributing something.—Dr. Giles made an order of 2s a week on the defend dant.
