TO CORRESPONDENTS.

Gooseberries (F.G.P.l—The gooseberry plants do not succeed in our climate near Auckland as they do where they aro subjected to a greater degree of cold during the winter. Through the mildness of our climate they are nearly always in growth, and the wood does not get sufficient time to ripen properly. To give your plants a check and assist in ripening the wood, you should lift them now with a ball of earth attached to their roots, and place the plant resting on the ball on the ground. They should be left like this for at least the next two months, when they can be again replanted. The lifting, cutting of roots, and exposure, will give the check that will assist in ripening the wood. Still at the same time I would not guarantee that even this treatment will cause your plants to produce fine, wellflavoured fruit, but it will assist, them in producing a better crop which will do for cooking. Lifting Anemone Tubers (Amateur).—You can lift and remove your plants to another situation with perfect safety even now or at anytime. They are in flower up till within a few weeks of their beginnimr to go to reat. In moving they will only receive a slight check if a little soil is left attached to the roots.
