THE STAR CIRCULATION.

ACCOUNTANTS' CERTIFICATE.

63/708 COPIES WEEKLY.

THE LARGEST CIRCULATION IN

NEW ZEALAND,

The decrease in city population disclosed by the recent census has suggested fco us the propriety of having an audit made by independent accountants into the condition of the Star circulation. The resul 6 has been even more satisfactory than wg had anticipated. The loss of 5,000 in the population of Auckland city and suburbs has, of course, prevented growth of circulation in the ciby, bub there has been a sbeady increase in bhe counbry districts. Wherever there is daily communicabion the people are no longer contenb to bake their news a week old ; and even in places like Whangarei, which have regular steam communication with the city, the penny daily newspaper has become an institution which every intelligent settlei has learned to appreciabe, and will on no considerabion relinquish. H« finds it payß him, even if only by bhe fresh information he obtains of the course of th« markets, and the current businessannounco ments. Throughout the existence of bhe Star wo have always held that; an advertiser, is as much entitled to be furnished with bona fide information regarding the return given for his money by a newspaper as he claims when dealing with any other commodity, and the Star has always been conducted upon that principle. In nothing is the business man more imposed upon than in the payments he makes for advertising through mediums which give him no substantialreturn. Theappendedsfcafcemenb, which we have this day received from Messrs John Waymouth and F. G. Ewingbon, will, we believe, givo satisfaction to our wide circle of business supporters. Ifc shows thab the Star circulation still exceeds that of any obher daily newspaper in New Zealand by nearly 3,000 copies daily :—

We hereby certify that we have carefully examined the hooks, and inquired into the Issue of the "Auckland Star " newspaper, and find that the net dasly circulation for the four calendar months ending 30th April last, has averaged 10,618 copies daißy, or 63,708 copies weekly.
