THE EDUCATION SURPRISE.
London, April 24.
Mr Goschen will devote of the surplus to the withdrawal of light gold and to building barracks, half a million.
The proposals in regard to education are a complete surprise to the Opposition, who regard them as indicative of the pressure of the Unionists. The Tories are fairly pleased, though a section are dubious until the interests of the voluntary schools are secured. The " Standard " etrongly condemss " the squandering of the surplus in educacation."
