KAURI TIMBER COMPANY.
Ik accordance with the regulations of th e Kauri Timber Company's articles of associ' at ion, the ordinary half-yearly meeting o shareholders was held in tho Oldcrfleet' Collins-street, Melbourne. Mr Robert Harper, the Chairman of tho Company, briefly addressed tho meeting, which he explained to be merely a formal oue. No balance-shoot was presented, us, although the regulations required a half-yearly meeting, the report and balance-sheet wore presented annually. Ho said that tho business of the Company had been proceeding as well as could be expected. Prices for timber showed signs of improvement, but at the present tiroo the sbate of tho timber trade was anything but satisfactory. The shipments had boen far in excoss of the requirements of tho trade. He went on to say thab while the directors considered the most important part of the Company's business to be the timber trade, and were paying most attention to their interests in that diroetion, they wero not regardless of the prospects of the gold mines on tho Company's escato, and it was hoped that these would develop in such a manner as to be a source of considerable revcnito to tho Company. It >vas announced that sinco the last half-yonrly meeting the follo>ying gentlemen had been appointed to the Company's Executivo : — Mr Robert Harper, chairman; Mr James Macmeikan, general manager and secretary ; Mr F. O. Biidgeman, local goneral manager for New Zealand; Mr E. F. Broad, manager in Sydney. The chairman said that he had been requested by ttio directors to visit New Zealand in the interests of the Company, and that it w:ih his intention to do so next month, with a view to making himself ucquuintcd with the way in which the work was conducted in the various departments of. tho liiicinosa over there. Tho meeting was quickly brought to a close.
