A NEW STEAMSHIP PROJECT.
A COMPANY WORKING TO SECURE A GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY.
Montreal, March 26. Montague Allan and J. S. Allan, of th e Allan steamship line, have arrived in Eng' land on business connected with a new steamship project. It is proposod to form a new company of which the Naval Construction and Armament Company of Bar-row-in-Furness and the Allan Company will be chief promoters. Negotiations between tho two companies are at present in progress, and they are expected to be successful. The intention is to have the new company take over the existing line of steamers ami run them principally as freight steamers. The new lino will be under control of the Allans. Three or tour fast steamers will bo built similar to tho»6 running to Now York. Montreal will be the summer port, and either Halifax or St. John the winter port. Glasgow, March 26. The Allan Steamehip Company has purchased the lino vessels and the goodwill of the Company.
