THE ELINOR VERNON.
After an absence of a year or so from Auckland waters, the well-known smart American barquentine Elinor Vernon, Captain J. Berry, ie back again here, as uaual from New York via Wellington, with part cargo of American notions and general merchandise. She got into port this morning early, 10 days oub from Wellington. Her cargo for thie port comprises 1,425 cases kerosene, 127 cases turpentine, 106 rolls printing paper, and some woodware, hardware, and sundries, The Elinor Vernon lefb New York on November 8 last, and had light weather to the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope, January 27, in 40- S; She ran her easting down on the mean parallel of 43' South, and made Cape Leeuwin on March 2nd, in latitude 44deg 50aiin. She experienced light and variable winds acrois the Southern Ocean, and made Cape Farewell on March 21, with heavy westerly winds and thick weather. On arriving off Wellington Heads on 20th ult., a heavy north-westerly gale sob in and the vessel waa blown away south as far as Kaikoura. She arrived at Wellington on the 26th March. On March 28th her cook, named A. Schneider, a single man, 27 years of age, died of consumption and asthma. She discharged part cargo ab Wellington, and then sailed for Auckland with the remainder.
On discharging the Elinor Vernon will, as uaual, load up here for New York again with kauri gum and flax.
