CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW.
The second annual show of the Auckland Chrysanthemum Society wus held at the Choral Hall on April 16, 17 and 18, and proved far and away the most brilliant: and successful flower show ever held in the "colony. The large hall was handsomely decorated with, native foliage, and the blooms exhibited comprising some 1,000, in the Japanese, refiexed, and incurved sections were so arranged that the building appeared to bo iilled with a wealth of floral gems. In the anterooms thero was a profusion of very handsome bduquets and a few valuable groups of pot plants assisted to make up a show of wonderful completeness. The Show was formally opened by His Worship the Mayor on the Thursday afternoon, and then and on each day following the exhibits were inspected by thousands of visitors, His Excellency the Governor and the Countess of Onslow, who paid a visit to the Show on Friday afternoon, were greatly pleased with the great beauty and fine quality of the exhibits. The National Chrysanthemum Society's bronze medal for a descriptive group of chrysanthemums, with foliage plants interspersed, 50 feet square, was awarded to D. Hay and Son. Tht National Society's silver medal for cut blooms, thirty-six varieties, was awarded to W. Mclndoo. T. Whiteley secured the National Society's bronze medal in the incurved section for 24 blooms, and Hay and Son obtained similar honour in the Japanese section for 24 varieties, one bloom each. National Chrysanthemum Society certificates were awarded as fellows : — Open class : Mclndoe, 1 ; Whiteley, 2; Hay, 3. Amateur class: Tay'ler, 1; Ward, 2; Dewes, 3. Champion class: Tayler, 1; Ward, 2; Dewes. 3. Three certificates of merit, which are the highest awards the .Society can give, and one only presented for great excellence, were gained by amateurs. Mr A. E. Dewes another for 24 varieties In. the Japanese section, and Mr Archdale Tayler tho other for 12 varieties in the same section.
