TABERNACLE SUNDAY-SCHOOL.

The annual meeting in connection with the Tabernacle Sunday-school was held last evening. There was a eood attendance, the liev. P. H. Cornford presiding. After devotional exorcises, the secretary (Mr W. Baker) read tbe annual report, of which the following is a summary : — Reference was mado to the death of two old workers, Mr and Mrs J. Whitburn, the latter (formerly Miss Cooper) having been in the school an scholar and teacher for many years. In the temporary absence, in England, of the superintendent, Mr F. Battley, and his wife, teacher of the young women's Bible class. Mr S. G. Rountree, co-superintendent, is in charge. Regret was expressed because of tho numbor of young men leaving for Australia. The teachers' and office-bearers' roll totalled 61 against 56 last year. The average attendance of teachers was, morning 16, afternoon 37, against 13 and 39 last year. The school roll number is 540. The morning average attendance of scholars is 111, as against 95 last year. Afternoon average 332, as compared with 349 lasb report. The largest attendance on a Sunday was 416. The Young Christians' Band has now been in existence 14yrs,and themerabership is 147, there being 19 additions during the year ; 262-scholars are members of the International Bible Reading Association pledged to read a few verses ot God* Word each day. The infant class has a membership of 150. The school collecting boxes for missionary and school effort yielded £38 Bh, the largest amount yet given. The scholars were very successful at the late Industrial Exhibition, exhibiting 180 items and Securing 104 certificates as follows : 12 special, 40 first, 30 second, and 22 third-class. The Tabernacle Literary Society has entered its 25th session. Special mention was made of the late president Mr W. Birch, his presence on many occasions in the school work, and of his loving words and weighty advice, and also of Mrs Birch's kindnoßS in presenting awards to successful competitors in various conlex ts. A statement of finance was read by Mr Finlay Hay (treasurer). The -year's receipts were £193 10s 2d ; expenditure, £189 Us 3d ; total collections for the year, £79 15s lOd; of which the children contributed £38 Bs. Tbe roports were adopted, and interesting addresses were given by the Chairman, Rev. G. D. Cox,"Mr Rountree, Sunday-school superintendent, and'the Rev. C. H. Garland, who complimented Mr Kilpatrick on the manner in which tbe children .had sung sacred selections of music during the evening. The usual children's tea and entainment takes place this evening.
