Tho attention of the Members and the General Public is called to some of the special l'eaturos connected with this Society, which la tho oldest Colonial Institution of its kind, having been established in the year 1819. Tho results of the business for tho Fortyfirst Year, ending 31st Docombor, 1889, may be summarised as under :— FIRST—The numbor of the Now Policiea issued was 11,664. SECOND—The now Assurance businoßS effected was for cS3 f 6"7S,i-59. THIRD—The New Annual Premium Income amounted to £121,300, FOURTH-Tho not inorcase to tho business, after allowing for loss of income from torminatod Policies, was' represented by 7(020 Policies, assuring £2,109,199. FIFTH—The operations of tho yoar raised the annual income of tho Society from -31.512,230 to £1,625,185, an increase in twelve months ot i3112,_05SIXTH—The Accumulated Fund was increased during tho year hy tho sum of £7-3,311, equal to 71 per cent, of the gross premiums received. SEVENTH—Tho deaths atnonf.,' lives a_gured wore 649 under 73S policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £289,602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to tho Tables used in eetimatinn; tho liabilities would havo been 1,143, for an amount of £433, the mortality experionco being thus extremely favourable. EIGHTH—The receipts from interest and rents were £516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for tho claims by £133,352. NINTH—Tho expenses of Management were only 95 per cont. of the total receipts. TENTH—Tho cash surplus divided for tho year 1889 was _E_;26,-&9-&, being at tho rate of 415 per cent, on tho premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 yeara of its existence may bo summarised as under :— It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717. Ib has paid to tho representatives of deceased members over c84,000,0Q0 in satisfaction of death and matured claims. Ib has divided among the members cash bonuses aggregating over £4,000,000, yielding reversionary additions of over £3,000,000.
