A FATAL FALL.
DEATH OF XV. H. JOHNS
The unfortunate young man William Henry Johns died yesterday at the residence of Mr Olsnn, Epsom Road, from injuries caused through falling off his horse as ho was returning from the Military Sports a week ago. The deceased belonged to the Pukekohe Mounted Infantry and had borrowed a somewhat sl:ittieh horee from a neighbouring settler to attend tho sports. As he was leaving , the gateway at Pottor's Paddock one of the constables advised him to be careful of the horse, but ho rode away laughing. Johns wns carrying a portmanteau on the pommel of the saddle, and this hampered him subsequently when his horse bolted, the result being that Johns was thrown heavily to the ground. He was carried into the residence of Mr Olsen where he has remained, as Dr. Mackellar did not deem it wise to remove him to the Hospital. Decoaeed's mother came down from Pul<ekohe and nursed him until the end. Dr. Mackellar having given iv certificate of death,an inquest will not be necessary.
