AMERICAN SUBSIDY BILL PASSED'
A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce this afternoon waited on the Hon. Mr Ward, PostmasterGeneral. Mr Ward explained that ib was entirely a mistake to suppose that he had tried to throw any obstacles in the way of the saving of time by the San Francisco mail service. Ho was in support of the service. The mistake had arisen through tha misreading of a telegram by the manager of the Union Company. Mr Porter and others thanked the Minister for hia explanation, with which they stated that they were perfectly satisfied. Mr Ward, at the conclusion, mentioned that he had just received a reliable cable message, stating that tho American Subsidy Bill had passed.
