SOCIETY OF ARTS EXHIBITION.

Tho opening of tho Society of Arts Exhition took place on March 4. Tho attendance wiis very largo indeed, and tho hall ab first, while the crnnh was heaviest, terribly warm. Tho fountain looked delightfully cool, and the decorations woro ureatly admired. Tho Managing Committee may warmly congratulate themselves on their success in this direction. Precisely at eight o'clock Hia Excellency bhe Govornor, tho Countess of Onslow and Captain Guthrie, arrived and woro received by tho President, Mr (']. A. Mackechnio, and a select, committee consisting of Messrs 13. Bartloy, F. Wright, E. W. I'ayton, Gregory, A. P. Wilson, Mr Upton (tho Mayor), Mr Holland, Dr. Purchas, and ono or two other gentlemen. The gubernatorial party, who were subsequently enforced by the arrival of Admiral Lord Charles Scott and Lieutenant Fitzgerald, who were conducted bo bho platform. As soon as everyone was settled, His Excellency stepped briskly forward and made tho opening speech. Tho following aro tho awards on tho entries for competition : — Class i : Studies b.
