THE RICHMOND'S TRIP.

After a rather shorter absence from Auckland than usual, tho locally-owned steamer Richmond, SSO tons, Captain Hutton, returned to port from the South Sea Islands last evening. She brought back some passengers and a full general cargo of Island" produce from Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti, and Rarotonga, including a big shipment of oranges, the first of the orange season. She has made a vory good round trip, and the fact of being fitted with a new shaft made a considerable improvement in her spood, the vessel averaging on the present trip about 10 knots per hour. Of the Richmond's cruise, Mr O. Latchmore, super-cargo, writes : "Tho steamer left Auckland on Sunday, the 18th January, at 6 p.m., and was alongside the wharf at Opua next morning at 7 o'clock ; took in MOO tons of coal, and left same day at 5 p.m. Tonga was reached on Saturday, 24th inst., at 10 a.m., and we discharged cargo and left same evening for Apia (Samoa), arriving there on Tuesday at 10 a.m. We discharged freight, and after taking in about 100 tons of copra left for Papeete (Tahiti) on Thursday, 29th,at noon. The United States Iroquois was the only man-of-war in Apia Harbour when we left. Alter a rough passage Tahiti was reached on Thursday, sth February, at daylight. We landed live stock and cargo and steamed round to Pueu and Vairio on Saturday, where we took in 2,000 cases oranges. We returned to Papeete on Tuesday, 10th, picked up our passengers, and left on our home voyage at 4 p.m. We called at Rarotonga on Friday, 13th, at 8 a.m., and finished our loading with limejuico and cotton, copra, etc., leaving same day at S p.m. for Auckland."
